EchoMetrix and data mining kid chats

Post by amishrabbit » Fri Sep 18, 2009 8:49 pm

I've just been reading a very interesting AP story posted about 2 weeks ago.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/art ... AD9AGNVM00

The article fairly conclusively (IMO) condemns EchoMetrix ( http://www.echometrix.com/ ) as using covertly logged children's IM and chat text for data mining purposes, which it then resells as marketing trend data to large media and entertainment companies.

The EchoMetrix website is not itself directly involved in this, but it is the company behind this fairly sleazy use of keylogged chat information. The website currently has a grey, unrated icon.

Thoughts?

Why does anyone think that this sort of thing would be acceptable?

Shocking. I left a comment.

(Idk, but does a link alone really tell confused parents why the site is red?)
