"Considered safe by WOT"

Post by Site-rater » Fri Aug 21, 2020 3:36 pm

How strongly does WOT's machine learning override user ratings?

Case in point: A misinformation site spreading dangerous misinformation during a once in a century pandemic:
https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/aapsonline.org

It already has the Misleading or unethical tag, yet it's Predicted as Safe by the WOT Algorithm and gives a green donut on Google searches. Perhaps because its trust is a paltry 61 and light green (and light red too) donuts were retired due to the dumbing down of the WOT interface?

WoT re-ran its algorithm, changed the scorecard and removed the "Machine Learning" notice at
https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/aapsonline.org
(I notice that Wikipedia has classified that organisation as a "Political advocacy group" rather than a professional association. See
hxxps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_American_Physicians_and_Surgeons )

I wish WoT would provide sufficient details of its new machine learning algorithm for us in its users community to understand it. I've always avoided accepting decisions that come from black boxes or "the Great Oz has spoken" sort of thing.

New website - "considered safe"

Post by lcp » Thu Oct 08, 2020 2:55 pm

Hi!
New to this so sorry if I'm getting it all wrong. Recently (a few months ago) launched a business and a website along with it. My ad account has been blocked on facebook because the website's not considered safe according to woT. Not sure why or whether it's relevant that i'm using Shopify as an ecommerce platform

How do I get it to be considered safe? The website is blanketlabs.co

Thanks!

I'm guessing that WoT's "Machine Learning" (ML) algorithm was mostly responsible for your site's reputation. Once enough WoT users have rated your website, their ratings should replace the ML algorithic results for better or worse. Please see the Site Owners section of WoT Support at
https://support.mywot.com/hc/

Should you decide to request that the WoT users' community evaluate your site for trustworthiness and safety, please carefully follow the instructions at
https://forum.mywot.com/site-evaluations-f4/instructions-how-to-post-site-evaluation-request-t84725.html
Please examine recent site evaluations to see how the request format should look and to see what you may expect to happen.

My website has been marked as unsafe for phishing. It just a computer support tech site where I write about my experiences fixing computers. I also mirror theses articles on hxxps://davescomputertips.com. My hosting service is a free service at hxxps://x10hosting.com - http://whois.domaintools.com/x10hosting.com

I don't even understand how I got marked when I go to the WHO scorecard there is no rating and no reviews. If you're going to accuse me of crimes I haven't committed, the least you could do is show me the evidence. I have no advertising on my site. It's more just a hobby that I originally started back in 2005 on Geocities.

@TFHollett, Welcome to the WoT users' community forums. Until a sub-domain receives enough ratings for WoT to calculate a reputation score for it, the site "inherits" its reputation from its parent domain (x10host.com in this case). I am guessing that has probably happened with your website. It's only a guess because WoT scorecards no longer indicate when a reputation has been inherited, unfortunately. You will need to contact the WoT support staff for the specific details about your site's reputation, either by using the Contact form at https://support.mywot.com/hc/requests/new or by sending email to support@mywot.com

To request that members of the users community review and rate your site, please carefully follow the instructions at
https://forum.mywot.com/site-evaluations-f4/instructions-how-to-post-site-evaluation-request-t84725.html
Please review other recent site evaluations to see how your evaluation thread should look and what you may expect to happen.
