eBay security compromised, users urged to change passwords

Post by NotBuyingIt » Wed May 21, 2014 2:52 pm

EBay urged users to change their passwords after the attack on a database that also contained encrypted passwords, physical addresses and phone numbers. "(Reuters: http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/05/21/us-ebay-password-idUSBREA4K0B420140521 )<!--break-->

no evidence of any unauthorized access to financial or credit card information...." (eBay Inc: http://www.ebayinc.com/in_the_news/story/ebay-inc-ask-ebay-users-change-passwords )

Ouch, the paypal/ebay company are shmucks. They do not do enough to protect their data.
I changed mine and it is now longer.

I just changed mine - though don't know if ebay.in is affected too.

Hmmm... saw that on TV. eBay, too. Who's next? I need some help:

OK, so I need even MORE complex passwords than I already use, and a different one for each of the many sites I go to online. Can I get a suggestion for a free, safe, password manager that can "follow" me (web based, with local file backup maybe?) wherever I go so its always available? Although my picture may not show it, I'm nearly 60 years old.. and -my- memory for remembering complex passwords isn't what it used to be...

Thanks in advance -
Mark

All of eBay as far as I know.

The hackers had access to admin accounts. The user information they could see was all encrypted but they had access to that information for weeks so no telling how much they may have been able to turn into readable data.

I have used LastPass off and on for years. It's one of the best available. The PC versions are free.

I saw that this morning. I was kind of shocked that the change password process all took place on-site. That totally defeats the purpose. They should email you a reset password link.
