How can I defend this?

Post by freakedman » Wed May 04, 2016 6:20 pm

I have read that some scripts can be run through active content such as javascript or flash and get hardware information including install dates and serial numbers.

Is this possible, and does Adblock plus defend against it? If not how can I defend it?

Adblock Plus (or any superior adblockers) may provide a partial protection against malware, as a lot of web malware comes in advertisements. However, that is not the intent of these programs; they are primarily intended for annoyance reduction and data usage reduction.

Flash should be disabled for the most part, except on trusted websites that require it.

JavaScript normally should not be able to leak hardware information, but because of Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) certain browsers may potentially leak that data. Microsoft Internet Explorer might be the worse offender, and on the other hand Firefox replaces hardware IDs in EME with a per-domain unique identifier, as well as sandboxing the DRM components away from the OS.

There are extensions to block JavaScript. For Mozilla browsers like Firefox, Tor Browser, and Pale Moon, there is NoScript. In the case of Tor Browser it is pre-installed and should not be manually re-installed.
For Chrome ScriptSafe is the most popular JavaScript blocker.

go to browser bar add in and " file:///C:/ " Enter.

PS to be safe try MyDocuments
