How to uninstall Web of Trust...?

Post by Sami » Sun Jul 24, 2011 5:30 pm

I can tell you, this rogue application that popped up in my Google+ sparks is not the answer:

hxxp://howtouninstallaprogram.wordpress.com/2011/07/24/a-clean-web-of-trustremoval-%E2%80%93-learn-the-effective-to-uninstall-remove-web-of-trust/

The links on that site seem to point here:

hxxp://www.freeuninstalltool.com/Internet/Uninstall-Web-of-Trust-for-Firefox-182804.html

Which prompts one to install Perfect Uninstaller, an application whose developers have been pestering us for years about their reputation. This is a new tactic though.

(For those really interested in uninstalling the add-on, see the FAQ.)

Just quote:
You have uninstalled Web Of Trust, but it still may start up automatically when you log on. Then you have to disable it from task manager each time you log on.

I have personally never seen such processes that may automatically start up when I log on to my Windows. Absolutely incorrect information.

Reads like a perfect example of a scam... actually, this could even fit the scareware category when I read the wrong description related to the "Web Of Trust" add-on. It's almost funny they actually try to trick people in thinking the add-on would be a default executable, running in some kind of autostart mode. But stating stuff like that definitely crosses the line between "humor" and "bad business ethics". ~shakes head~

Perfect Uninstaller - Useless / Rogue

Post by Guest » Sun Jul 24, 2011 7:29 pm

Downloaded from: hxxp://www.perfectuninstaller.com/evidesmart/PerfectUninstaller_Setup.exe

Installed and checked this program. It has three steps, first step, this program has started original uninstaller of that program which I've selected in the start window in order to uninstall it from my computer.

And here is a second step it's scanning registry for the left over entries

Third step it's scanning local drive for the left over files (Same as above in the 1st window, but with files, not entries)

And finally, I see this window

When I clicked "Next" button,
I've been offered by this program to register it in order to uninstall all entries and files that have been found after scanning.

Press "Yes" to register or "No" to exit

Ohhh, I have to buy this porgram in order to complete uninstall process.

There is nothing is for free, just useless software.

So this site freeuninstalltool.com has been rated for misleading domain name and providing misleading / rogue in my opinion applications there is nothing for free again. This howtouninstallaprogram.wordpress.com rated for providing fake / misleading removal instructions and fraudulent affiliations / scareware advertisement. Not a really good commercial tactics. :-(

EDIT: perfectuninstaller.com has been rated too, of course.
