So, since this moment, two-factor authentication has been enabled and password manager is used.

Other stuff:

Avoid blathering on social networks about personal details you may use for online authentication.

Provide nonsense answers to challenge questions; e.g., "my mother's maiden name is Orange".

Have a Plan B in case your password manager breaks, or a signin screen requires keyboard input.

Move new mail from the server to a local folder as soon as possible.

Insist that your friends use BCC for email lists and instruct as needed.

Uncheck "keep me signed in" before signing in.

Instead of http, sign in via https if available. Some accounts offer a permanent setting for this.

If you have the slightest doubt about a "legitimate" email, view the raw message source first.

Sign out of your email service and exit that browser before surfing unfamiliar sites.

Paper too...

Post by phantazm » Thu Jun 30, 2011 10:17 pm

These days it's easy to forget that everything isn't online, yet.
People should be more careful with their paper mail as well:

Name, address and social security number may seem like innocent data,
but it's actually enough for scammers to start identity abuse.
Remember to dispose official papers in a sensible manner.
And be careful out there...
