PayPal Phishing Scam – Your Account has Been Limited

Post by Frank J » Tue Jan 29, 2013 1:26 am

There’s an email purporting to be from PayPal, claiming that your account has been limited due a problem. This is a phishing scam that tries to fool members in providing personal information in order to lift the limit of their PayPal account.

Hope everyone is doing well and starting off the New Year on the right foot :)

These are still very common I guess. I occasionally get these and report them. As it is, I only trust direct and secure communications to entities like paypal.

Important things to remember about PayPal emails.

The real ones will ALWAYS address you by your first and last name that they have on file (Hello John Doe). Most of the spoof emails do not know your name, only your email address.

Also if you want to double check look at the senders email address. paypal(at)e.paypal.com / member(at)paypal.com / service(at)paypal.com are the main emails they will be using.

If there are any links within the email they will ALWAYS be secure links (https). https://email-edg.paypal.com

If you think you have experienced PayPal fraud or received a PayPal scam via email (e.g. a fake email pretending to be from PayPal), forward the entire email to spoof@paypal.com, and delete it from your email account. If you came across a fake PayPal website, contact our Customer Service team.
