Shouldiremoveit.com and WOT for Internet Explorer

Post by evilfantasy » Thu Feb 07, 2013 11:21 pm

I was checking out the software from Should I Remove It from Reason Software and was surprised at some of the ratings. Especially the rating on WOT for Internet Explorer. hxxp://www.shouldiremoveit.com/WOT-for-Internet-Explorer-12161-program.aspx

WOT for Internet Explorer shows that 76% of the users who "rated" it think it should be removed. Granted at the time of this posting there are only 11 users who have given their opinion so it's not a massive user pool that the rating is made up of.

NOTE: I have no evidence that Reason Software is behind or supports the bad rating so I would caution anyone thinking about rating their website/software negatively here at WOT to not rate negatively without evidence. Just like WOT the Reason Software website consists of community ratings. We can correct it though by giving WOT a fair rating. hxxp://www.shouldiremoveit.com/WOT-for-Internet-Explorer-12161-program.aspx Scroll down to the "What do users think about it?" section (middle of the page on the right) and give your own rating.

BUT!!! Reason Software is also the owner of boostbyreason.com and that site has a poor reputation at WOT. So, Should I Remove It may very well be biased due to having a negative scorecard here at WOT.

The Should I Remove It GUI links to boostbyreason.com so we may take that into account when/if rating shouldiremoveit.com.

EDIT: There is another scorecard here. hxxp://www.shouldiremoveit.com/WOT-Services-11014-program.aspx

Re "Reason Software" - is this anything to do with the well-known audio studio software?

Code: Select all

Looking at that page, and having WOT installed in 3 browsers, IE being one of them, the folder and files referenced are not on my HDD, for example: amping.exe - which is part of Bing Toolbar
WOT with Bing Bar - July 2010; not available from Oct 2010 > present

PC manufacturers have WOT "installed" aka: OEM?

My folder is program files/wot
that conatins the BHO: wot.dll
and the safe search wss.exe

Rated by 11 people (click star to rate)
I rated the WOT for Internet Explorer scorecard but it still says the same stats as when I first visited the website. Could these ratings be fake?
some domains:
anticrapware.com
shouldiremove.com
shouldiremoveit.com
boostbyreason.com
builtwithreason.com
enjoyyourpc.com
Smells of another "free" software vendor with intentions on steering users to a paid service/software program.

I rated the WOT for Internet Explorer scorecard
I clicked on the rating stars (five) as well on my initial visit; as with you, it never changed 11 "votes" 2 stars

Since the myWOT.com file path / files are incorrect, I'd definitely would steer clear of having this software "clean" anyone's computer, imagine all the lockups / freezes / crashes resulting from removing improperly associated files.

I've discovered a Site Evaluation discussion for: boostbyreason.com
and posted a cross-reference link to this discussion.

Hi,

My name is Andrew and I am the owner of boostbyreason.com. I was wondering if the community would help out and let me know how I can improve my reputation of the site. Currently it is rated very poorly and would love to do anything I can to change that reputation but am not exactly sure what that is I need to do. My only thought is that the software I have created is in a category of products that is unfortunately associated with a bunch of scammers. I would really like to think that my software, Boost, is not in that category as that is exactly the reason I created the software; to try to end the reputation of crappy PC cleaners. In regards to that, unlike most software, Boost comes with a fully functional 14 days trial (not crippled in any way) in order for the user to determine if it is suited to their PC needs, I absolutely do not try to push the sale of the product through scareware tactics. I don't bundle the software with other software or market it by bundling it. Right now all my marketing is simpley word of mouth. I try to do everything feasible to offer my customers a great helpful experience, and don't gouge them on price, its a life time for just $20. If you would like, please download the software and see, I would be more than happy to answer any question you might have.

I am a user of WOT and know that having a poor reputation is not something I want to start out with as I am sure you understand.

My contact information on the site can be found at http://www.boostbyreason.com/about.aspx.

I also own the domain www.builtwithreason.com (for the company I just started), and that too has a poor reputation, I assume because it links to boostbyreason.com.

Any help would be really appreciated, I would love to sort this out and do whatever it takes to make my product and site have the best reputation as possible.

Thank you in advanced for your help.
Andrew

That is an important finding so can you please elaborate to tell us what exactly the firewall flagged? It should be in your quarantine or logs within the firewall settings. If you need help finding it let us know what firewall and maybe we can help.

Once we have that information, since the owner has requested we give input then hopefully we can get things sorted out and submit a fair rating (good or bad).

@ evilfantasy =

I will do something that I will never do again , my machine is barely one year old
I going to try to download it again .................. I will pm you and then we share the info here
Edit : 5.33 am
I left the information with Evilfantasy
A Trojan horse virus triggered ZA scan , with the result of a generic virus , I did not go any futher as I am quite sleepy
In my opinion this a program I do not trust to download
I like to clarify that I was prevented from running the pogram , by the incident I just mentioned
Maybe someone can sandboxie it , and run it
Good night
