The unknown power of WOT

Post by Dutch Mountain » Thu Aug 19, 2010 8:08 pm

Report to inform you all :
On July 28 I requested rating on this forum for my new site
The same time i"ve send a mail to about 25 contacts in Holland that the new site was opened to internet.
Within 3 days we had 480 visitors, a major part of them from other countries.
That must be caused by WOT, what else ?
Here's the list :
1 Netherlands
2 Network
3 Unresolved/Unknown
4 US Commercial
5 Belgium
6 Indonesia
7 United States
8 Germany
9 Japan
10 Niue
11 Australia
12 Russian Federation
13 Hungary
14 Latvia
15 Brazil
16 Canada
17 Non-Profit Organization
18 Austria
19 Norway
20 Spain
21 India
22 Mexico
23 Seychelles
24 China

This shows how many silent readers this forum has who never contribute to it.

Beware all of you what you write, the whole world is watching !

BTW : We had a peak in amount of visitors end of July.
Then the site was launched with the NZBT flowershow in Holland and that caused an even bigger peak. We now have thousands of visitors in - let,s say - 3 weeks

Thank you all for the help to launch the site, it's a great succes.
Special thanks to the actives here on the forum !

I just wanted to give proof that many, many people read this forum and stay anonymus.
You can also abstract that from the fact that those 480 visitors watched 7500 pages, according to stats, that,s
unbelievably much per person.
It can be explained by the fact that WOT users normally watch a whole site ( incl. PP ) before they give a rating.
I shouldn't know what else.

BTW Superhero : Nobody buys from our site, it's purely informative about the product Celosia.
And we don't want to make a Spanish version of it.
Chosen to leave it to English and Dutch.
I am webmaster of 3 sites ( all in 2 languages ) and that's more than enough.

@ ARGH : I,ve seen some german that was coming from the Seychelles in August again.
That's a long holiday ! LOL

Some thoughts.

Some thoughts.
I am unsure what analysis package you use (I assume weblogs analyzer).
2,3, 4, 17 are likely to be bots (non-humans), at least partly. No automated log analyzer fully dismisses all bots.
For correct attribution one needs to find how many people came with referrer "", though this can be hidden in some cases.

So maybe we´ve met somewhere digital :o)

What package ?

@ geidrius : I,ll have a look and when I can abstract what came from "" I,ll let you know.
The stats page is very very extended, so I have to search ( when I have some time left ).

Edited afterwards : Most WOT members visited at the end of July, but in that month I was building and the top 30 is all
WP ( Wordpress ) pages caused by me
So I can't tell. But I started counting vistors from the day I opened the site to internet, so those figures are accurate.

Can't see it in August as well, there the top 30 was all Dutch, caused by the visitors of the exhibition where we launched the site.

I like PIWIK at
--- snip from site ---
Piwik is a downloadable, open source (GPL licensed) real time web analytics software program. It provides you with detailed reports on your website visitors: the search engines and keywords they used, the language they speak, your popular pages… and so much more.
It is free and you will find a lot of features like Google Analytics.
