What Office Software Do You Use?
What Office Software Do You Use?
Greetings WOT,
With the tremendous influx of Office software, it appears that although MS Office still dominates the business world, major influxes in the use of free and on-line Office suites such as Libre Office, Open Office, Google Drive, and the free Microsoft Office Online, have opened up new choices and opportunities for many users.
MS Office is still the standard for business. Newer versions are expensive (Office 2007+) Many people don't like the Ribbon of modern MS Office (2007+) and use Classic Office (97-2003.) because it still meets their needs, takes up less memory on newer systems, and for many home and small business users, does what the users need. Most larger businesses doing advanced managerial assessments, technical writing, or statistical analysis will probably use a modern version of MS Office.
For home users, most will be writing letters, papers for school, note-taking, recipes, and general correspondence. In this regard any word processing software version will do a great job. Additionally, I am amazed by the exponential growth of Google Drive in the classroom. Libre Office now seems to be the dominate Office suite that is free. Millions still use legacy MS Office, up to and including Office 2003. Microsoft does provide a free Compatibility Converter, which allows users with Office 2003 and below installed, the ability to open up Office 2007 and higher document files created with the new Docx. format
MS also offers a rented version of Office called Office 365. For a required $100 a year, you can get licenses on up to five computers, and expanded One Drive Storage all integrated. Good price for businesses. Might be a little steep for home users.
What Office software do you use most often? I have Office 2003 on Windows 7 with the Compatibility Converter. It does everything I need it to do, and the Converter, while not perfect, probably gets a conversion correct 98% of the time. I also find myself using Google Drive more and more for the Auto-Save feature, the Revision History function, and the ability to work across computers in the cloud. One Drive seems to offer a little more, but you can only save in new MS file formats if you create a document in One Drive. You can however, upload just about anything to One Drive or Google Drive, (or both) for easy storage and access.

List other products in the comments section. I should mention I have Office 2010 on my Windows 8,1 laptop, but find the Ribbon and functionality too cluttered compared to Office 2003. Feel free to mention as well if you don't use any Office software.

Back in 1985 it originated as StarWriter, which has since evolved into: https://www.openoffice.org/
RE: What Office Software Do You Use?
I used OpenOffice for a long time but LibreOffice is a lot more updated.
RE: What Office Software Do You Use?
Using OpenOffice and MS Office 2007 = both are very user-friendly in my opinion. OpenOffice is much better only because it is free.
RE: What Office Software Do You Use?
LibreOffice. No MS stuff here.
