If you're using the Mass rating tool there should be a warranty right?

It have happened to me some weeks ago with a legit Child-Transgendering support website. Fortunatelly the owner informed me and everything is ok now. I'm heading to check the "Request for Comment" website list. I have monitored it for a while and the work there seems dead on its tracks.

Abuse

Post by Guest » Fri May 21, 2010 12:44 am

Seems like abuse of the mass rating tool (a "shoot first and ask questions later" approach). I have often wondered if the WOT threat of suspending a users mass rating privileges has ever been enforced. If ever there was a time to do it, NOW would seem to be the time, and this user would seem to be the candidate.

Is the exact same as the one on the ZeuS tracker website. Only difference is that the list in post #1 it is not complete.

mass rate tool MRT

Post by c۞g » Fri May 21, 2010 5:27 am

I know from experiences that it takes WOT more than 10 seconds to respond per click on the MRT... sometimes the servers lag, plus there's the AJAX code and the "working" animation is visible for at least that length of time, if you have high quantity of domains pasted into the domain input text area, it takes longer between "clicks. I know, I've spent more than one 10 hour day rating sites in the past year and a half. - though I check many of them, even from "list sources"

I assume that you could have 10 people behind 10 PC's with WOT synchronized to the same user account effectively creating "one user" with all 10 people rating various entries at the same time. They could be located as 1 account simply by connecting behind the same modem, essentially having 1 common IP.
Note:
"10" is a random number, it could be 2 or it could be 50 - what's the difference?

The interesting thing about a shared account is that you could supply user name and password to *anyone* for any reason.

I find it odd that when rating scorecards individually after around 20 ratings (I never kept count, just guessing here), you are presented a Mollom Captcha to ensure you are not a spammer, but mass ratings are neither throttled, nor limited - though I'm not sure what quantity would constitute a "daily limit"

There was a time that the MRT was offered to Gold and Platinum.
But because of this blog announcement; specifically:

Unfortunately, the tool has been abused. Specifically, some users have been copying published lists [blacklists, host files] and have not double-checked for accuracy. Additionally, corrections are not made in a timely way, and previous ratings are not being reviewed. Our experienced, trusted reviewers work far too hard to validate and assess individual ratings for us to allow their work to be tainted by those with less-than-reliable processes or motives.

The definition of abuse in this blog post is:
copying published lists and have not double-checked for accuracy.

I am interested in an official explanation of how 1 person can load, review, copy, paste, and rate 900,000 domains in a few days - and NOT be classified as "abuse" as defined in the Blog article.

Since it apparently is no problem for this user to rate this quantity of domains...
I would like to see them all re-rated and the comments supplied with the correct lists used per domain. Why... it should only take a couple of days to do right? Especially with the !domain comment variable Timo made available.

Hi, thats true this

Post by 31Y13 » Fri May 21, 2010 9:33 am

Hi,
thats true this blacklist I have used is not very perfect, and yes I sat really this long time in front of my computer to rate this list, because I wanted to finish it.
The most of you used a blacklist and my was a bit too big.
Every 5 sec or so one click and I made pauses, if not I would jump out the window ;)
You might say I am crazy, yeah maybe...

It was not my aim to become #1, a lot of people think if you are #1 you are mighty like god on WOT, but I knew that this is not so.

Furthermore I have checked a lot of this sites when I rated them and deleted around 10.000 because they were wrong and there were also around 70.000 IP's wich I have also deleted from this list.
And I am still validating them, I will add a "v" on the comments from this now.

I am really sorry if you thing that I was abusing my "power" but I do not.
I am also interested in maintaining the quality of the assessment as you do.

I could have also rated a spyware and malware-blacklist with few hundred thousands of entries but I know that malware lists have more fp's than others and I do not rated them.

So if you find fp's please tell me them.

PS: sorry for my bad English

I am the only user of my account,
there were a advertising in Germany a long time ago:
"Toyota: nothing is impossible" and you see there millions of cars that have problems, I think there are hardly people who could imagine this...sorry for this off topic)

I would like to see them all re-rated and the comments supplied with the correct lists used per domain. Why... it should only take a couple of days to do right? Especially with the !domain comment variable Timo made available.
I will check them...it will take months.. and I am not sure how to use "!domain" why should it help to rerate? The best check is one by one and not automated.

Don't see how it's possible to comment and rate almost a million sites without the
method g7w described. I think that it's the only logical answer to how a user could post
and comment so much In such a short time.
