One might be charitable and think they're purposely writing them in Engrish so papers turned in by ESL students are less likely to be detected as plagiarism -- but this is the example they chose to feature on their webpage? Especially when the services they offer include editing and proofreading? Even a basic machine spell check would pick up half of those errors.

[/quote]This is why a precautionary screenshot is seldom needed: because that stunning (taser-style) literacy *is* the best they have to showcase. They could only replace it with something equally stupid.

What is particularly irksome is exactly that ESL students often won't realize they are buying garbage. What is slightly more ambiguous is when the perpetrator hires an English-literate micro-worker to compose the facing pages ... until you view, say, the gibbering ToS, but especially when you identify the "industry standards":

- a *product* is being sold (a dissertation, essay, homework, paper, thesis, etc);
- it will be a *finished* complete product, requiring no additional work by the student before submission;
- it will be *undetectable* as plagiarism (originally authored, or stolen and run through a word-spinner, robo-translator, or text reader);
- it can be ready in a *short* time (typically at an escalated price) - too short to "guide" the hazy and lazy to authorship;
- added bonus: *soothing* assurances that Pinocchio customers can party hardy without the terrible, unfair stress of actual work;
- the site will be advertised in a *web-ring* of similar sites.

There is another breed of sites which offer home-brew and/or crowd-sourced ratings of academic forgery sites, simply link farms extending the web-ring; rather like a hypothetical site that rates which viruses are best for your computer.

Yes, I know I'm preaching to the choir - this is for others to read. In particular I want them to know there are legitimate academic help sites that make students do their own work and offer no guarantees. Fortunately it's pretty easy to see the difference.

[green] There are a number of text generation utilities which enable people to generate mostly nonsense text. Some of them will enable things that actually sound somewhat significant. Here is a sample of one that IMO doesn't intend to be taken seriously- but yet proves a point: [/green]

[red]Rated[/red]. It's a disgrace. I'm a high school teacher and you'd be amazed at how many plagiarised papers students hand in. It's not like their entire future is at stake because of that particular essay they're "writing", yet they'll try to outwit me, usually by copying their papers from this Spanish website where people just upload their stuff and anyone can download it for free. Sometimes it's so obvious it's laughable and extremely sad at the same time.

The more basic issue is, "Why do these people feel they need a degree if they're willing to pay money to avoid getting an education?"

Clearly employers are putting way too much emphasis on the degree and far too little on the entirety of what an employee brings to the job. And far too many bright young people are being steered to college when they would find a more fulfilling career being master tradespeople instead of mediocre college grads.

[green] It makes sense though. We live in thin times. Think of how lazy the average HR person is. They look for these kinds of things. We live in a society in which one gets praised for being president of the debate society- and doesn't know a thing about anything that was debated. Right now it is a badge of honor to run for president and not know and not want to know. Today's generation of young women want to marry basketball players and get paid to have a camera follow them around their kitchen. When the history channel stopped showing the American revolution and started showing phony hillbillies in the swamp their ratings went up FOURFOLD!...

We live in a Palin, Kardtrashian, Tebow era. [/green]

EDIT:[green] Part of the problem is we are overly reliant on credentials. Here is some more reading:[/green]
