lucrativeminds.com

Post by mentalist3d » Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:14 pm

In December WOT announced on their blog that they are providing Trust data to lucrativeminds.com which is a directory of work from home opportunities, you can learn more at: http://www.mywot.com/en/blog/309-wot-provides-trust-for-lucrative-minds

The trust data that they use is only for paying members so users of the free accounts are left open to the various scams that operate in the work from home opportunities.

Checking the site, their is a few red sites, and some green sites, but free users do not get access to the trust data so as far as I am concerned they are open to scams unless they are willing to pay to access this free data supplied by WOT.

Looking into the site, I see a few issues, apart from profiting from free data provided by WOT, the other issues I have are:
  • Site has cookie policy but no privacy policy, yet collects PII such as name, address, telephone number, and has 4 trackers/bugs/beacons
  • If you opt to pay for a service, the site once again collects data on an unsecured page, credit card details are also collected unsecured
The site does link to red sites, and since I have got an account, I am going to go through each one and post the links in this thread.

I can see what the website is trying to achieve, but by linking to red sites and not providing this data to free users, I firmly believe that they do not fully believe in providing a safe experience for all their users.

I apologise to the WOT staff for bringing this up, but this website got your support, is trying to profit from your data and leaving free users at risk, and the site doesn't follow the forum guidelines, mainly point 6 on the 2nd sticky:

If your site is commercial-based and you do not have a privacy / cookie policy, it is advised that you install one. The WOT Wiki has information on:

* Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
* Privacy Policy

Well said, mentalist3d. Indeed, I would go further and point out that the OP site is making money from our efforts, which we freely give to WOT. Most unsatisfactory.

Echo

I do not mind WOT trying to make money out of our efforts because they have provided a useful and valuable tool for people to use, so it is a 2 way streak with WOT and the WOT community, but Lucrative Minds withholding WOT data to paying customers only doesn't sit right with me at all.

Sorry, the site did look promising at first, that's why I registered, but after registering a free account I noticed the limitations and the withholding of the data which annoyed me, so I had to comment.

I also agree and it's rather disturbing to say the least.

@ Sami

Does WOT have some sort of site review procedure to keep track on sites that have the Trust Seal?

Rated and due to the informations that mentalist3d clearly stated here, I have commented the website as "Scam". About the involvement of WOT and this organization, the post of Deborah just states that lucrativeminds is relying on the WOT API for their service and not that there's some sort of collaboration between the two entities. So WOT is not involved in anything. Eventually abused without any real knowledge about the truth of the matter, but not involved.

I also suggest on filling the missing parts of the WOT ToS, clearly stating who can use the API, for what purposes. This would ensure the raters here on the addressing of their efforts and automatically let the service kick out the fraudsters without any potential side effect.
