Please rate my website - phoenixtools.org - robot spammers got mad at me and I'm censured...

Post by ysteban » Thu May 21, 2009 1:43 am

If you can make time to rate my website, i would really appreciate it (http://phoenixtools.org). A while ago, i added forms for feedback to many pages in my website. soon after spammers started using the formmail to send out BCC emails. When I became aware of this I added code to foil them. Apparently 'my defense' made these people angry and now i have poor website rating. I have looked at sites comparable to mine in regards to content and they are all good to excellent. There is nothing malicious on my site, no cookies, no personal information collection, it is all content and my goal is to help others raise their awareness and to self-heal. i give all for free, and this is strictly a non-commercial website. While I can understand the content and what I express is not for everyone, this is true for all information, we are free to pick and choose. it is not fair that my site can be so easily censured with this tool. I hope in the future problems like this can be avoided. it would be nice to be able to know who exactly made each rating, so one could contact them and ask them why, etc. That all is anonymous then makes this possible. Thanks so much for your help. Betsy

Three comments

You've made three green comments on your site scorecard. That's certainly not "forbidden", but it is bad form as far as an owner commenting on their own website. It happens that sometimes owners make one favorable comment . . . but three? That's a bit much, and will raise eyebrows (mine included).

As far as the content of your site, it seems to be the "alternate medicine" stuff. While some don't agree with most (but not all) of those viewpoints (myself included), disagreeing with a viewpoint alone is not sufficient for a bad rating . . . unless it's hateful or advocates crimes, which I would be quick to add your content is certainly neither of those.

So content alone, as you imply, is not the reason for the site having achieved a poor rating. I say that because our raters that are experienced, and whose ratings carry much more weight than less experienced users, don't judge content poor just because they disagree with an innocuous viewpoint.

Consequently, any poor ratings based on disagreements with your viewpoints were likely made by inexperienced users, hence the weight of those ratings would not put your site in a poor category overall.

Your "disclaimer" is interesting. The first two sentences seem pretty standard.

But the third sentence is . . . for lack of a better word . . . weird.

". . . treatment of a conscious, licensed professional . . ."

"Conscious"? Geeezzzz . . . I mean, how could an "unconscious" person even treat someone? Never mind the obvious jokes this brings to mind.

"Reference or links in this web site to any entity, product, service, or information do not constitute endorsement or recommendation"

While the gist of that may be a standard disclaimer sentence, the obvious question that comes to mind is "Why did you put those links in to begin with?"

I did not probe any of the links (because I am not sandboxed at the moment), but taking a quick glance at the robtex graph of your IP (74.50.26.35) raises another eyebrow.

I'm sure others here will look closer, and I will myself when I have more time, but I wanted to give a quick answer to your implication that your site was graded poorly because of disagreements with your views. NOT SO!!!

I went on a similar path

Please remove brackets around the site and the period at the end as it breaks the link.

I went on a similar path and it looks like we have arrived at the same destination:
Be Here Now http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Be_Here_Now_(book)
Journey of Awakening http://www.spiritsite.com/writing/ramdas
Sadhana: A Way to God http://www.spiritualityandpractice.com/books/excerpts.php?id=13342

I learned that:
Religion is for people afraid of going to Hell
Spirituality is for people that have alrady been there

Described as 'non-profit' but links directly to phoenixstore which is profit.
To me this site is a phishing scam that seeks personally identifiable information and much of the content is older than the site itself which I find very unusual although there are possibly plausible explanations for this?

Wow, I'm blown away today to see what I don't know. Yet, I adapt and learn and try to fix my errors. I changed the logo of the site, to remove non-profit, as I am not 501(c) and there is the store. On my donation page with my mission statement, it clearly says that any donation is not tax dectuctible and it goes to me. in the forum, it needs to have a nickname and email because if that is not there then spammers use it to post their urls. I'm not collecting any personal information on this site. I changed the copyright on all pages from 1999 to beginning 2006. I had no idea that was a problem. as i have many articles and poems i wrote beginning at that date, that is why i used that timeframe. The disclaimer is a problem? I will consider the comments and modify it. in general with self-help sites and when talking about self-healing, then it's important to state such things.

Cookies from main page? I have no idea why they are there. Can someone help me to find why they are there and eliminate them?

What else can I do to fix things? If someone would please look closer, you will see 190 pages of articles, so much content coming from so much personal work I did. Truly, my heart is in the right place, this site is not about be trying to make money. This is not what motivates me.

The phoenixstore is a dead weight. it is an afficilate program with amazon, meaning if someone orders a book through that page, then i get like 5 cents. as it is, it's an Astore, which means there is no content physically on the site, thus the search engines don't find it. it hardly gets any visits. In one year, not one person has bought one book through that page. Yes, I will delete this next, it's useless.

Donations received in two years: zero.
I have not made one cent on this site, since it's been up, and I've been on the internet since 1999. since I put on the feedback forms a few months ago, many people give me positive feedback on the content and say it's helpful. i have only received one negative comment where a person didn't like the content.

What is the mvps hosts file? how can i find that and see what goes on?

I see my request has totally backfired, but you do help me, so thanks -- yet, today i feel like crying, i try so hard to help, all my energy goes to that -- and this is the result.

I hear you, and I agree. I am glad to hear that it is not content that experienced users of this tool are judging, rather my inconsistenties and errors. I work to fix them today. Thanks for your feedback.
