weny.com – an under-rated reputable news site

Post by A440 » Sat Jan 09, 2021 11:28 am

I happened upon this site, which is for WENY-TV, an ABC/CBS/CW+ affiliated television station licensed to Elmira, New York, serving the Western Twin Tiers of Southern Upstate New York and Northern Pennsylvania. This station does not publish Op-eds, and story selection is balanced, according to Media Bias Fact Check (https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/weny-news/)
It is strange to see this sort of site rated worse (71) than other controversial sites which have failed fact checks and have displayed deliberate bias in their editorial content such as Breitbart, which is incredibly biased and anti-factual in editorial bent.
This sort of rating smacks of rating manipulation
.

weny.com
WENY.com publishes news for the Twin Tiers area through reporters and with minimal bias such as this: New York restaurants can soon applying for grants amid pandemic. Many local news stories are accompanied by videos from the TV Station. National and international news is typically republished through the Associated Press.
Please feel free to rate this site accordingly: https://www.mywot.com/scorecard/weny.com

I have noticed that since my posting of this topic, the rating for this site has decreased from 71 to 66 for no apparent reason since nothing of note has occured to merit this sort of downward rating.

There might be troll activity; perhaps some of the less savory types may be using accounts trusted by the system to drive it down.

Considering the large drop for no apparent reason other than I posted about it being a decent, under-rated site, yes, that is a fair assumption which leads me to ask the question "just what other sites have been artificially inflated or downrated by the same means?" and "Are WOT administrators able to detect this manipulation for what it is?"

I'm finding other decent news sites with undeservedly lower rates, for example:

fourstateshomepage.com (71) KSNF-TV for Joplin, MO – very average affiliate that uses Associated Press, a very legitimate news source without editorials.
https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/fourstateshomepage-com/
Overall, we rate the FourStatesHomepage.com Least Biased based on neutral straight news reporting without offering opinion pieces. We also rate them High for factual reporting due to proper sourcing and a clean fact check record.
Yet . . .

This valid news site is rated lower that americanthinker.com – a right-wing, conspiracy blog that is not a valid source of news information whatsoever, rated 84!

When I catch these sorts of outrageous ratings, I begin to have serious doubts about the efficacy of WOT ratings.
