RE: To the WOT community

Since no one wants to claim ownership I have decided to claim WoT under international salvage law.>

The domain expires next August. It could be up for salvage in about ten months time..

More information from the Finnish media here - hxxp://www.kaleva.fi/uutiset/kotimaa/palkittua-verkkopalvelua-epaillaan-tietojen-vuotamisesta-poliisille-selvityspyynto/744645/ - the following is a poor translation which may include some inaccuracies: <quote><strong>Award-winning web service is suspec...

RE: To the WOT community

I notice that it has all gone quiet from WOT at the moment. Some looking around finds this Finnish article that might be of interest - hxxps://svenska.yle.fi/artikel/2016/11/15/salde-finlandskt-it-foretag-data-om-folks-surfvanor-dataombudsmannen-vill-att - which roughly translates as: <quote>If you ...

RE: To the WOT community

Actually the Finnish register of companies DOES say that WOT Services Oy changed name to to TOW Software Oy in February 2016, but that the company has also been in liquidation since June 2016. The Business ID remains the same, so it is the exact same business. Whether or not TOW is actually currentl...

RE: WoT = VIRUS/SPYWARE - DO NOT INSTALL / UNINSTALL AS SOON AS

The problem with "anonymous data" not actually being anonymous has surfaced before. Notable the AOL search data leak (hxxp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AOL_search_data_leak) also proved that individuals could be identified through data that was thought to be anonymous. That had serious ramifications for ...

RE: Blog post on what to do after detecting malware

Well, that's a can of worms. I guess a lot of people will have an opinion on this! Some thoughts - prevention is always better than a cure. Make sure your software is up-to-date (for home users hxxp://www.flexerasoftware.com/enterprise/products/software-vulnerability-management/personal-software-ins...

RE: Outfit that sued WOT members gets $90m fine for deceptive ad

It's interesting to compare the FTC statement against the accusations made on WOT years ago. The bulk of them do seem to be the same. Out of interest, I did look to see if Mr Difrawi has started any new companies since the FTC findings. So far, nothing. I'm not really sure he has any other skills th...

RE: Outfit that sued WOT members gets $90m fine for deceptive ad

<quote user="Site-rater"> They should be forced to pay that fine to victims of their lawsuits against WOT users, in order to send a message that bullying will be punished. Maybe affected users could try to contact the FTC in order to discuss damages? </quote> Lawyers would argue that Gigats and Expa...

Outfit that sued WOT members gets $90m fine for deceptive advertising

Back in 2010, several WOT members plus myself were sued by several companies under the control of Alec Difrawi for comments that they asserted were libellous that were posted on this forum and on the scorecards of several companies under his control. (For the record, I did not post any of the commen...
