Does the above not provide enough reasons to trust the site in addition to SSL etc.

(No, it does.)

The number of site owners who have arrived here assuming they've been dinged by evil "competitors" is almost beyond counting; yet the number of times this has become evident is paltry compared to aspects the site owner had not yet considered. Without expounding on how WoT works - you can read this in our Wiki - I will mention a couple of those aspects just to satisfy your curiosity, not to justify the anonymous bad ratings. And I'm only doing this here because your board is closed to private messages.

While you are not in the "deep South", you're not far from it; nor from its views and influence. Quite in the natural course of promoting your company - SEO and marketing and all that - you've broadcast far and wide your involvement in the local culture. Along with reTweets, you've covered local beverages, sports and entertainment, shouts out to local businesses, and the Kentucky Baptist Convention’s Choirs & Chorales Christmas Program - with plenty of artwork and fine words.

Which is to say that you've got everyone's attention, which may or may not be good for business because some people shun religion while others are very picky about it. Which brings up a recent addition to your portfolio, namely littleway.org. Nevermind the footer disclaimer that "Little Way does not perform or refer for abortions", it is very likely that somebody who answers to four first names merely peeked (because reading comprehension is not his thing) at the title of the first topic here:
littleway.org/your-options/
and immediately assembled a posse of like-"minded" individuals to punish you. I'm sure you can grasp the keyword value here.

Generally, competitors are out competing, that is to say, working. Whereas the above mentioned individuals have nothing better to do.

@Myxt - Seriously, thank you for pointing this out. My assumption from what I have read is the WOT community is focused on security/safety. I am surprised that our clients would have any bearing on whether someone rates our site safe for children or secure/non-abusive.

Thank you again. The big takeaway for me on this process is patience. There are more kind people here than people who rate things negatively out of spite.

1. That is the focus of the ~3K core members and many more. Because we are a meritocracy rather than a democracy, those who consistently demonstrate reliability acquire a bit more rating influence (unrelated to the "metallic" rank), and so tend to outweigh spurious ratings and stabilize the chaos of a global community.

2. Some sites that feed a pack of wolves are dressed up like Mary's Little Lamb (my apologies to real wolves). Other sites that are squeaky-clean (strong encryption, no porn or malware) sell dangerous drugs or run pyramid scams. The web site is an asset of the business, not the other way around. NSA.gov is really "clean", too ;) Your surprise would be based on the notion that anyone capable of rating your site is in his/her "right mind" - so you are not yet acquainted with Billy-Joe-Bob-Tom.

3. While you are practicing that virtue, you can invite clients - without compensation or barter - to honestly rate your site here

using their own separate computers (the system tests for gaming).
