child safety and web security sites

Post by logicman » Sat Jul 05, 2008 12:15 pm

I do not want to give a good site a bad rating in any form.

However, I feel that WOT needs some sort of facility to link child safety aspects of malware investigation sites in a *positive* way.

It is certainly *not* safe to let a child click on any random link in such a blog or forum.
We are all human, and it is so easy to forget to write 'hxxp' or 'dot com'.

So what would you propose? There will always be good sites that might still not be appropriate for children.

site ratings

What I would propose is a means whereby e.g. a security-related site could be rated negative for child safety without affecting any other ratings, or do the ratings not inter-act in your algorithms?

My major concern is that the issue of child-safety on the web is so bound up in people's minds with, shall we say, some very nasty people, it may be that rating a web-site as not safe for children may raise unfortunate assumptions in people's minds.

Each rating component is independent in our system, so rating a site poorly in child safety has no effect in its rating in other components.
