Scorecard Spam

Post by Guest » Thu Mar 10, 2016 9:27 pm

I don't normally complain on WOT but this is starting to get on my nerves.

Many Russian websites have comments which are being used for spam purposes. Like here for instance:

https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/autopostingsystem.ru

Some members' comments seem to consist almost entirely of the same text which is used to promote Ponzi and HYIP scams, like this gentleman who I have reported to WOT:

https://www.mywot.com/en/user/7486560

The point I want to make is do WOT admin remove these spam comments when reported and ban the member(s) responsible or do they just ignore the flags? Because I have my doubts given that there is never any feedback provided to reporting members like myself. The thing is if you aint going to bother removing them I shan't bother wasting my time reporting them.

Flagging scorecard comments seems to be futile these days. If you report them to support@mywot.com they usually ban them.

Report such issues here: https://www.mywot.com/en/support/feedback/abuse

And don't forget to bookmark it. ;)

I notice that the rogue user account that was reported in the OP yesterday has been banned. (It had reached Silver status.)

@ milliem
I doubt that the flag feature in scorecard comments is as useful as originally intended. As we see with thumbs up/down, there is likely a persistent deluge of scorecard flags that is simply too massive to administer.

When you find a nest, emailing the cluster of user profile scorecard comments tab addresses
_https://www.mywot.com/en/user/(user#)/comments
to support@mywot.com works pretty well.

As far as I know, this is your first time and you made a good point, I cannot add better advice than the one offered before I posted, for what is worth, I rated accordingly, maybe, just maybe, the owners of such sites, once they start to get the opposite result behind spam, then they will stop it
Best regards!

Here's another spamming member:

Of course the easiest way to stop members spamming Scorecards would be to block hyperlinks. Either that or only allow links to be posted after members have commented on a set amount of Scorecards.

Members and site owners are regularly being admonished by WOT admin for including live links in their forum posts. Allowing members to post links willy-nilly on Scorecards just makes WOT admin look hypocritical in my opinion.

Personally I would favor rendering all links in user-accessible text areas (forum, scorecards, blog/poll comments) as plain text:
- No one could click off to Neverland.
- Long links would not be cropped and uncopyable.
- Mods would have less to mod.
- Spammers could not ride WoT's high search rank.
- Joe-jobbers would waste their time.
The only disadvantage is that fewer spammers would blunder in here to get clobbered.

https://www.mywot.com/en/user/7367732/comments Mostly Traffic Monsoon which is a notorious Ponzi scheme

Right, I've had enough of going through the Community Updates so I'll leave it at that but I'm sure there are plenty more Scorecard spammers.

Can't there be some sort of filter (like the one from stopforumspam.com) that has a list of IP addresses of known spammers and if someone tries to register and his/her/its (if it is a malicious microworker from fiverr.com) IP address matches one of the IP addresses from that list, that person would be denied of registration?
