Verify Site Feature - broken form

Post by Stephen.Smiroldo » Wed Jun 01, 2016 1:20 pm

Anyone else having trouble verifying their website? I'm trying to verify our University site (https://www.ufairfax.edu) and have added both the META tag as well as the HTML file but when I click the "verify" form button, nothing happens. I try to continue through the next steps but I keep being taken back to the verify form with META tag or file. I have verified the META tag and file have been added to the website.

I'm not sure, but I swear I made my HTTPS-only site validate.
However, I might not have fully configured the virtual host before completing the validation.

If this is still a problem, I don't see why MyWOT Team can't fix this without blowing something else up; seems simple enough - make the script try https:// first then http:// (and maybe give an advisory if http but not https works reminding users of the advantages of https, although adding that might break the very delicate WOT codebase).

Also, ufairfax.edu is accessible on insecure HTTP too, so the validation issue should not be a problem unless http and https have separate content. However that does bring up a separate trustworthiness issue (due to the subject matter of your site) that can be discussed in the evaluation request.

Maybe it's because of presence of the "WWW" at the beginning of the web address? For instance, for some reason WOT is recognizing the "WWW" as separate address (subdomain) which is resulting in verification failed. This is not surprising to meet that bug as another one in addition to those we were experiencing recently.

On Wednesday & Thursday we were experiencing a few bugs with the site - are you able to verify your site now? If not please be in touch with support@mywot.com

Kind regards

The reason the wiki informs the user to contact support is that WOT never has nor does not currently support validating sites on HTTPS and therefore must be manually verified by Staff.

Should they...
Could they...
Would they...

It would be nice if validation would work for _https://my-site.domain
Certainly would resolve many problems and reduce posts made within these forums.

We are aware of some issues with verifying the site and are working to fix this.
When this arises, site owners can contact us, preferably via the contact form and select one of the “Support” options so our team can quickly assist with manual verification process.
