WOT Google Image Search not working (School Proxy)

Post by CommodoreS » Wed Dec 04, 2013 5:30 pm

I am trying to use WOT inside IE8 on Win XP at a a school in Essex.

The LEA uses their own proxy servers for filtering.

WOT is working on normal searchs but not in google images searching. When searching using google images this message also appears:

"SSL search is off

This network has turned off SSL search, so you cannot see personalised results.

The security features of SSL search are not available. Content filtering may be in place."

I am wondering if this may be something to do with the filtering proxy server, and if so if there is a way around this issue to make WOT work for google images.

Can you provide an example URL? (please use the

Code: Select all

URL
tag)
Example:

Code: Select all

https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=yosemite+sam&tbm=isch&source=univ

Also, when navigating to the above exampled URL do you see WOT icons?

Some features are not supported in Internet Explorer. Can you please try if the problem exists when using another browser?

If it will not work in IE then I will probably have to find a different solution. Its weird because it works in IE on my machine at home.

If its something that the LEA are doing to restrict it, then I should be able to contact them regarding this.

I've reduced the URL you included to a generic one allowing user language to be set correctly, etc.

Code: Select all

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=bridge
This is a standard Google query, your OP mentions problems only with image search, so here's the URL for images of bridge:

Code: Select all

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=bridge&tbm=isch

The US image query is:

Code: Select all

https://encrypted.google.com/search?q=bridge&tbm=isch

Neither Internet Explorer image page displays WOT icons on the images as they do in Firefox.
Internet Explorer used to display WOT icons on Google image results, so this must be a WOT bug.
Win XP SP3
IE: 8.0.6001
WOT 12.8.2.0

Thank you for the reply, If this is a bug, does this mean there might be a potential fix at some point, and by posting this here the important people will read this and take note of this?

Sorry, there are no plans to support Google image search on older IE versions, because Google tends to serve them a different version of the search results page than for other browsers. I can only recommend upgrading to Firefox or Chrome.

The thing is IE8 is the latest and last version of IE for Windows XP which a lot of people are still using.

The problem with the Chrome package is there is no MSI for it to easily deploy it to all computers, and I have added GPO restrictions to prevent people from adding strap ons themselves to Chrome.

So how do you deploy WOT to all machines for Chrome using Active Directory/Group Policy?
