WOT and new site ratings

Post by OldNick » Tue Dec 02, 2008 2:19 am

I went to a site that was supposed to be connected to a church site but which popped up a purported virus checker that is actually a trojan. My AV caught the trojan. However I have reported the site as dangerous to WOT, but its status seems not to have changed in a google search.

I actually WOTed the site that I was redirected to, by the above:
and found that it had been rated already. I added my rating. However, this site is already rated as dangerous in a google search, by WOT.

WOT <g> is the the procedure here, please? When does a site get rated according to input?

OldNick: "When does a site get rated according to input?"

When there's enough of it. A single person, still unknown to the system, cannot decide the status of a site. But keep rating, and your influence grows...

Rating Sites

OK. Thanks. So the one person that rated the site I was led to is somebody known then? If so, I get it and that sounds reasonable.

Re: Compromised sites

It looks like the site has been compromised. I wasn't able to reproduce the problem, but there were some Apache errors though. The rating changes as soon as there's enough evidence to support it.

Ratings and comments

Post by phantazm » Wed Dec 03, 2008 7:49 am

Actually I think that several persons have rated this site. But only one has left a comment to explain why. Remember that sites may be rated, without comments. Actually it is a new feature to add a comment...

By the way: maybe you should consider to rerate
I also use Avast, but got no warnings when I visited the site. It looks to me as a decent site, that was only temporarily compromised. Such transient threats are unfortunately a growing problem...

WOT - Where do we go next?

Post by Gunter13 » Fri Dec 19, 2008 8:20 am

Mobile! Make Firefox & Thunderbird with the associated programs usable in Pocket PC's !! I use an HTC 8525 for nearly everything. If I could sync with the Firefox & Thunderbird programs as well as the ability to use the other related programs with them, that would be the most outstanding development in my life.
Merry Christmas to all !! AND a very happy content New Year !!

Thanks, John
