If you want to bring psychiatric drugs into the equasion as a reason for the mass shooting leading to calls for gun controls then perhaps you should consider, how diverse is this problem!
In 2011, 8,583 Americans were killed with firearms. Meanwhile in the UK, the National Health Service is killing 1,000 people a month or 12,000 a year.

Forty-three hospital patients starved to death last year and 111 died of thirst while being treated on wards, new figures disclose today.

I cannot accept that psychiatric drugs were a major contributor to the actions of the individuals behind the mass shootings. Something just doesn't add up!

When you look at the global picture involving the increased population death rate, the actions of our governments, the attempts to silence whistle-blowers, alternate media, free speech, outlaw unions including protestsdemonstrations, cuts to welfare, lower wages with higher taxation, the increased surveillance and tagging of the population, forced vaccinations, etc. etc. This leave me believing that death involving a countries own citizens has now become big business.

@ All =

Maybe is a combination of many things or perhaps is an aching fact, that love and compassion , no longer exist in our advanced 21 century
That certain principles , like respect for human life , honesty and empathy are a thing of the past that we have become dehumanized or desensitized to the pain of others and that sometimes it becomes our amusement , instead of the news
Two individuals are pushed into oncoming trains
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-20856644
Millions died in a conflict that pushed the boundaries of the human imagination , when it comes to genocide
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-11108589
But for me these two cases got me so deep inside that I had to cry
A bright girl is shot for wanting to study
http://abcnews.go.com/International/malala-yousufzai-pakistani-girl-killed-taliban-rushed-uk/story?id=17479249
A young lady is raped in New Delhi
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/12/30/body-woman-who-was-gang-raped-on-bus-in-new-delhi-is-cremated-in-private
The woman and a male friend, who also has not been identified, were on a bus in New Delhi after watching a film on the evening of Dec. 16
I cried for her and for us , the Brave New World , I prayed for her and for all of us and when she died , I thought that humanity have died a bit more ............................................ how long do we have , before is too late ?
There are many theories of why these things take place , maybe the answer is so simple that we overlook it

<quote user="jazspeak">
... being suicidal and being murderous are worlds apart.
[/quote]
Observed among chimpanzees: The clan alpha gets angry and beats up second. Since the second is no match for the alpha, he beats up a lesser third ... and so on, down to the smallest who, because there is no one beneath him, beats up himself.

Investigating depression, it is a form of self-punishment as an alternative to lashing out. Both are morbid: it's a toss-of-the-coin based on fear of reprisal and a habitual acceptance that one is fundamentally flawed. It is initiated by those who usher one into selfhood; but after habituation, he carries his own torch down an extremely narrow, self-absorbed path.

Lacking broader experience, resources, and options, certain shocks may drive him to awaken from this dream to realize its origins. It is then a matter of simple (and terrible) logic to become so enraged at his miserable condition and its causes that he wishes to annihilate them all.

20-year-old Adam Lanza may have been taking psychiatric meds since age 10:
http://www.examiner.com/article/la-times-reports-that-the-connecticut-school-shooter-was-medicated-since-age-10
and knew that his mother had started legal proceedings to have him committed to a mental institution:
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/12/18/fear-being-committed-may-have-caused-connecticut-madman-to-snap/

That would certainly be the right kind of shock. Yes, guns were available when they shouldn't. His mother may have broken the law by allowing him to use them (or even have access to them) knowing that he was under the influence of drugs and mentally impaired.

U.S. 2011:
Murders by firearms: 8,583
Traffic fatalities: 32,310
Prescription drugs: 37,485

U.S. 2009:
Kidney disease: 48,714
Flu / pneumonia: 53,582
Diabetes mellitus: 68,504
Alzheimer’s disease: 78,889
Accidents (misc): 117,176
Brain disease: 128,603
Lung disease: 137,082
Tumors: 568,668
Heart disease: 598,607

Primary and preventable cause of most of these diseases: eating stuff that isn't food. No study will ever be made on the number of traffic accidents caused by driving under the influence of coffee.

That's what forcing people in China and North Korea wanting to fleet and live in the neighbouring countries. China is even attempting to preinstall a 'firewall' for every computer in the country but it came to a halt due to strong opposition of the citizens...
