Support for Windows XP is ending on April 8, 2014. If you're running this version after support ends, you won't get security updates for Windows.

You may need or not only time will tell, I have XP and windows 7 and like XP the best use it 98% of the time and my kids don't like windows 7
have windows 3.1 , 95, 98 for games but kids only like to play on XP & I not going for win 8 may be 9 or 11 be fix ?

Xp had been their best and stable OS till date. I had used Xp for 6-7 years. I've moved to Windows 8 now but it is a pain to use windows 8 as compared to XP.
Surely an end of Era.

FYI: If you plan to keep using XP, here are third-party security recommendations:

I'm reading a popular Dutch computer magazine.
And in the monthly special they pay attention to XP and the ending support on April 8
Two major warnings from them is absolutely not to do any financial transactions ( e.g. online banking / credit card payments ) and not to log in on sites where your ID is a subject after April 8. Or other privacy sensitive matters.

Second warning is that they expect that cybercriminals keep secret which leaks they've found already now, so they can "open fire'' directly after the support has ended.

Without being pessimistic, but IMO "dark clouds are packing together".
A good firewall together with a good AV will not be sufficient combined with XP in April and later.
Be safe everyone............

It is an old OS. It is dangerous to use Microsoft Windows XP after 8 April 2014. So you must to buy Windows 7, 8 or you can install a Linux <edit>distribution</edit> on your (old) computer with Windows XP.

Well as far as I heard, China is working on keeping windows XP alive and had some meetings with Microsoft. I hope this prevents them from ending the epoch.

I think it is about time people to move away from Windows xp. I don't say there is nothing really wrong with Windows xp, but for example Windows 7 is like from an other planet. Windows 8 is also very good especially in touchscreen use, but with traditional mouse and keyboard layout my choice is Windows 7.
