Product Updates - July 2020

Post by MyWOT-Team » Mon Jul 06, 2020 7:52 am

Dear WOT community,

We hope this message finds you all safe and in good health.

We would like to share with you some of the improvements and upgrades we have implemented on WOT in the past month, as part of our efforts to make your online environment safer.

Machine Learning (ML) Algorithm: We continuously work on optimizing and improving this cutting-edge algorithm, which was implemented only a few months ago. With your help and vigilance, we have been able to calibrate, re-calibrate and adjust the accuracy of our learning sets to improve the results we receive and deliver.

This is an ongoing process and we have much faith in its benefits. We encourage all of you to continue evaluating, and reevaluating websites through WOT and reporting unusual and exceptional websites that need to be reviewed by the community.

In addition, we have added a section on each scorecard that will display the indication of our Machine Learning algorithm of each site. Under “About this site”, you will now be able to see how our ML rates each site, based on the various elements it takes into consideration.

Email and fraud detection: We have recently improved our email verification process to strengthen the credibility and reliability of both the reviews and the users of our platform.

We have already witnessed the positive effects on the authenticity and trustworthiness of each scorecard that this improvement has achieved.
Additionally, our algorithm now has a better sense of new and unique patterns of manipulation attempts.

New scorecard features: You can now indicate if you liked a review on a scorecard. If you found a review you believe accurately reflects the true nature of a website and/or if you found the review helpful, you can give it a thumbs-up and mark it as “Helpful”. Right next to the button you will see the total ‘thumbs-up’ each review received.

On the other hand, if you encounter a review that you feel violates our community guidelines, you can “flag” it and pass it to our reviewers.

From now on, if a website has been put on a WOT-trusted blacklist, it will be displayed on the scorecard.

Our efforts to continuously grow and improve WOT, to make your online environment safe never stop, and we work every day to protect our community. We have many more new features and improvements coming up and we encourage all of you to rate and review websites through WOT, and to continue updating us on violations.

The old scorecard used to have both upvote and downvote buttons.

Hey Site-rater,
Thanks for reaching out and sharing your feedback with us so we can keep improving myWOT.
The down-vote option was removed in recent years as we decided to advance with myWOT in a more 'positive' direction and avoid vote battles.
Currently, you can give an up-vote to a review that you found helpful, or flag and report a review you believe violates our guidlines.

In addition to destroying tons of hard work from users who heavily contributed translating this site to correct (not google translated as you did) and well readable Russian language, you have deprived user rights to disagree.. Well done folks.

Actually, a well written comment like yours, is a much better way to express disagreement.

The original thumbs-up/thumbs-down scorecard voting functioned solely to allow a reader to sort the list of scorecard comments in order of most popular or least popular. This immediately led to complaints that unpopular comments were being concealed or censored and to unethical manipulation of the comment rankings by (you know?) sockpuppets and bots. WoT's efforts of remedy those two problems led, in turn, to a large amount of misunderstanding, confusion and mistrust. See, for example,
https://forum.mywot.com/reputation-discussions-f5/naturalnews-com-t26984.html

I don't know the intended function of the restored thumbs-up voting. Perhaps it's merely a shiny adornment implemented because Facebook does it too.

By the way. Why wouldnt you remove the option for red ratings as well? That will extremely advance your service in the best positive way. Also, removing red ratings option for users will help you avoid red-vs-green battles. Just go ahead and improve. Dont you feel, you are doing some strange improvements?

Do you mean grow with bots - then yes, you are right. But not with the live people.
Noticed when reviewed community activity page: most (if not every one)of comments from russian users have nothing to do with "real opinions", they mostly look like as written by bots. All contents are of the same type and style: "good site, recommended","bad site, I do not recommend","sites content is good", "sites content is bad" and so on in similar way. there is no live and free speech as people mostly do - only template generated sentences made by variety of accounts.

Presumably (however I am personally sure)these "russians" are posting reviews from one list that was shared between them (most sites have several reviews from same persons with identical comments as described above), it makes me think they are microvorkers building activity scores by cheating the number of reviews.

Seems most of adequate russians have left your community long time ago, and there are only bots on the site. Very soon you will lose and other users, and will be left with the "bot power". You have made everything possible to render your community real freaky.
