WOT the?

Again I am puzzled by a bad rating.
www.ask.com

It has several bad ratings and even more good ones (although this somehow leaves it with a red circle??)

But all the comments are about google as a search engine.

So I am puzzled as I said.

ask.com is a perfectly good site

As is related to IAC/MindSpark, the well known company(s) behind such lovelys as SmileyCentral.

I'd recommend staying as far away from ask.com and all their other sites, as possible. Indeed, the only search site worse than ask is 7search.com (long story)

I'm puzzled, too. What 'red circle' ? Admittedly, the site has attracted its share of negative feedback. But comments do not equate with ratings. All I see on the scorecard are four green donuts.

Nonetheless. It continually astounds me that people bring to the forum a sense of indignation that a site they frequent has aroused negative supplemtary comentary. Be reminded, comments - in common with individual ratings - are a measure of opinion. Should one disagree with that opinion, there is absolutely no barrier to registering a contradictory rating and attendant comment.

Conflicting opinion is not only to be expected, but is a healthy measure of any community or society. Of differing sets of experience. Values.

There is no unwavering party line.

Why do I always get attacked when I get on these free sites and suggest there may be a problem?

the red circle

"what red circle???"

the one that shows against what WOT says is BAD.
it shows against www.ask.com: a sponsored link
( a WOT fail) shows next to the link that is a "sponsored link"....www.ask.com.

a lively philosophical point.....but sorry I am not querying peoples' opinion, so much as the rating that seems to avoid your philosophy.

In addition I still ask WTF the site has oh ---- it

THIS PLACE IS GOING TO CREEP ---- UP ITS OWN ---- AND ANALYSE IT.

I AM GOING TO SWITCH OFF WOT. IT IS TOO FAR UP THAT PASSAGE TO WORK

Oh, since it's about a sponsored link, your question is answered in in this FAQ entry.

Better ask Jeeves.

Take the tradesman's entrance; and don't SLAM the door on the way out.

Patience is a virtue which you seem to lack :( If you could just calm down for once, take a deep breath and post your questions in an intelligable manner, people would understand what you ask and would be able to answer fully without you losing your cool.

So, as I understand, you want to know why ASK.com is green which you disagree with. First off, you need to realise that it is green because more people trust the service than those who don't. Why do they trust this service compared to the rest of use, could be mainly due to the fact that not everyone reads security blogs, forums or other news to familiarise themselves with various threats out there. They use Ask.com as they would with any other search provider and probably have never realised it is gross spyware (or care) as the results search safisfy their needs or the service is to their liking compared to others out there.

WOT works on the basis where it shows the trust indicators for all those who rated and displays trust based on that, not just a select portion of the raters. It is not uncommon to see a site rated green with countless pages of red comments. The same can apply to a red site with countless green comment pages. Although comments are not ratings and do not affect this, you, as per many other unaware memners appear to believe they do contribute to the site rating indicator. The rating is totally seperate as indicated on the slider bar showing 1-100.

You may feel ASK.com is a perfectly good site contrary to the opinions of many security sites and professionals. If you took the time to read various forums, maybe you would understand why ASK.com is shunned by many, including me.

@ IssViews

Yep.

But. From the OP"

ask.com is a perfectly good site"

although this somehow leaves it with a red circle??"

Trouble is, he's baffled as to why it has received a RED rating. And so am I, since it is clearly GREEN.

I would guess it is because he rated it red (or someone using his PC) and it shows a red when he tries to access it.
