There are too many legitimate download sites out there to even consider using one such as Kazaa.

kazaa.com comments at SiteAdvisor

Post by Tonor » Mon May 04, 2009 12:20 am

The comments over at SiteAdvisor don't all relate to kazaa.com. There's conversations of sorts between a number of users - does no-one moderate them? - and a lot have nothing to do with the usefulness or otherwise of Kazaa.

Sharman License Holdings Ltd (associated with about 1,619 domains)
owns Kazaa - always had.
they also own KazaaLite
there's WindMX and many more.

The Altnet P2P Network is primarily used for Kazaa via brilliantdigital.com
Three reasons why Altnet is the best way to promote and sell your media online.
  1. Kazaa offers unprecedented control over distribution:
    • Set the retail price
    • Own the consumer / fan relationship
    • Customize your marketing and promotions
  2. Kazaa allows you to reach the largest audience on the web:
    • Tools to tap into online communities
    • Premium search engine placement of your products
    • Access to 70 million internet users worldwide
  3. Sell and market your digital media with Kazaa's products and services:
    • Secure copy protection and rights management
    • Integrated payment processing gateway
    • Tracking and performance optimization tools
Kazaa privacy policy states:
Our Software is used to make sure that artists and copyright owners receive applicable royalties. This software identifies and counts the songs you have obtained and/or accessed including, if you have purchased a subscription plan, tracks that you may have listened to offline on compatible portable devices ...

What that means is they record a list of all media on your PC, whether you received it through Kazaa or not, and if not, then you are suspect of copyright infringement because they have no records of your purchasing it through them.

How do you think Kazaa is used by the RIAA and MIAA (including their international counterparts) to take private individuals to court?

Music downloads are dangerous and for the most part illegal since copyright infringement may be involved.

Take for example Shareaza. Notice WOT colors shareaza.com RED. if you grab the IP for shareaza.com and use robtex.com to peek into it, you will see a hefty list of various file-sharing software domains - none of which are to be trusted! Examples are: Bearshare, Bandoo, imesh!
So what about shareaza?
shareaza.com is NOT Shareaze, The Shareaza web site was hijacked back in 2007 by the Israeli gang that "bought" BearShare for the RIAA in 2005. (article) The software presented at shareaza.com is Shareaza's core, since Shareaza is open source and available from sourceforge project page

Now I'm not advocating illegal music file sharing, but if I were to get a P2P program for.. whatever, it would be from here.

I still remember when I was a kid... and I downloaded this...
I was sure this was legitimate... Oh my god, I can´t believe I was an idiot.
Here´s a better P2P: www.aresgalaxy.sourceforge.net
Remember to rate it!: http://www.mywot.com/es/scorecard/aresgalaxy.sourceforge.net
I use it everyday to download music.
Now, http://kazaa.softonic.com/ : Kazaa Lite K++. It´s a copy of Kazaa, but without malware. Interesting, right?

Dont use this crap

I wouldn't use any of these sites. Look at Demonoid.com they got shut down by CRIA and it wouldn't surprise me if they are running it now to catch people. There was people in Ohio where I live arrested for filesharing, but they were dumb enough to actually sell it on the street. The fact is movie makers and music artists are making so much less because of these sites, that they are spending millions of dollars trying to catch people illegally downloading. If you want to stay out of jail go buy it.
