It's not a bug and not all subdomains have an excellent reputation.

blogspot websites

Post by c۞g » Thu Feb 25, 2010 11:02 am

a subdomain inherits the parent domain's reputation until enough ratings are given to that subdomain to "split it off" from the parent and it has gained it's own reputation.

So... all sites on start out green but many of the "sites" that abuse blogspot for Spam for example, get caught and turn red.

Adult content downgrade?

I noticed that blogspot sites all inherit a "green" rating for "Child Safety". I think WOT may want to reconsider that as a default rating. Currently, blogspot/blogger "Content Policy" ( explicitly allows pornographic content.

I ran a google search and, sure enough, plenty of clearly porn blogs (hosted on blogspot) had green "Child Safety" ratings.

I understand that not all subdomains should inherit the rating of one bad player (such as the spam stuff), HOWEVER, when the TOS/Content Policy allows the practice, I would think a yellow/orange default Child Safety rating would be in order.

default ratings

Post by c۞g » Sun Apr 04, 2010 7:13 am

by default a site or subdomain of the site is unrated and WOT displays this icon [img][/img]

WOT requires ratings by a source whether it be you or me or any other WOT user, and / or a Trusted Source. WOT Staff do not manipulate ratings, if they did then the system WOT relies upon would be nullified.

The best thing you can do in that situation is, if you viewed the site and disagree with the rating, then please rate it.

I understand that not all subdomains should inherit the rating of one bad player ...
No, it subdomains that inherit the parents reputation; not the other way around.

If is green, sub stays that way until it has enough ratings to "be on it's own"

Setting to warn as adult content for all blogs would be wrong - not all blogs on blogspot are adult oriented, in fact the majority are not.

Also, valid blogs on blogspot, meaning those that have been set up as an adult site have an "entry page" warning what content lies ahead. Unfortunately, many blogs are set up with the intent to spam: some with links to, some that redirect to other sites that may have adult content but are in reality Phishing sites or Malware sites. You can get a current listing of these spamvertised blogspot sites here - just do not visit them unless you have active and current antivirus and other security related measures installed. (this list changes daily)

In my opinion, if you find a pornography blog hosted on, you could either rate it yourself, or start a thread on the forums asking for ratings.
If you find any discrepancies in my comments on site scorecards,
please leave a comment on my board and I will correct it if I am wrong.

Thanks for the response.

I guess my main concern was that my kids will hit one of the wrongly green rated sub domains. Of course, I'm not dumb enough to think WOT (or anything else) will shelter them from such content...we've had plenty of talks about what to do when that happens.

I did rate blogspot. We'll see how many agree with it. Thanks for the clarification.

I did rate them and think my query was addressed. Thanks.

It's just inherits the real website domain. And mostly in some cases the ratings of the subdomain are low or high. It depends on the content of the subdomain.
