Here is another reason to downgrade infowars.com and any other Alex Jones site:

Jones and infowars has been permanently banned from Twitter.

Code: Select all

I think that domain, along with their partner cloudflare.com, might deserve its own forum topic.

This site is still green and should be red.

That change — no matter how well-deserved the readers of this forum believe it to be — apparently isn't happening. The site's Trustworthiness score remains "Good" (currently 79:100 with a mild 2:5 estimated reliability) and its Child Safety score is even a touch higher (currently 80:100 with a similar 2:5 estimated reliability). On the one hand, the ratings may reflect the enormous popularity of the site; (its Alexa Rank is 1902, very high). On the other hand, the WOT system may be fouled up beyond all repair; (comments posted by banned users are reappearing on some scorecards so perhaps their unethical ratings are being applied too). I don't know which is the case.

"Notbuyingit",

IMHO, WOT is diminished when such an obvious violator of so many standards gets what amounts to a free pass from its service.
This does not reflect well upon WOT worthiness.

I appreciate and sympathise with your concern. The highly respected and reliable Southern Poverty Law Center has an (older) article that discusses the site and related issues. See
https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/individual/alex-jones
Given the plethora of major internet organisations that have taken the unusual step of banning A. Jones, the guy running the site, I cannot help but wonder if the WOT system is being played for a fool. (I don't know of WOT still employs a statistician.) However, the WOT system has (or use to have) a rule that every time a WOT user visits a website, the user's old rating is refreshed in order to restore its full weight. So while the influence many older, adverse ratings will slowly diminish, the ratings of Jones's regular visitors will remain strong.

This is yet another example of why rightwingnews.com is untrustworthy as a source of news:

Code: Select all

www.nytimes.com/2018/10/11/technology/fake-news-online-disinformation.html
On Thursday, Facebook said it had identified 559 pages and 251 accounts run by Americans, many of which amplified false and misleading content in a coordinated fashion. The company said it would remove the pages and accounts. Among them were Right Wing News, which had more than 3.1 million followers, and left-wing pages that included the Resistance and Reverb Press, which had 240,000 and 816,000 followers.

Facebook said this amounted to the most domestic pages and accounts it had ever removed related to influence campaigns. The company said it had discovered the activity as part of its broader effort to root out election interference. Also, the pages had become more aggressive in using tactics like fake accounts and multiple pages to make themselves appear more popular.

Kinda' double standards for Google to permaban Jones from YouTube yet the official Infowars app is still available despite being banned off Apple's app store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... s.official

But I guess that goes to show how lax Google Play is, where phony apps made by basement-dwellers and ripoff artists thrive.

Anyway, on the topic of fake news and alarmist/conspiracy theory-slinging nonsense, would pro-Duterte sites deserve to be given the red as well?

Exactly.
This is why I don't want any devices running android. Google has been home to quite a few scams (remember the locksmith/florist scam when searching for a local locksmith anywhere?)
