Plugin Sync - Bug

Post by mentalist3d » Sat Oct 31, 2015 1:38 pm

Recently, I had to reinstall FF and the WOT plugin. When I synced the plugin, all my ratings have been wiped out.

According to my profile, I have only rated 5 websites even though I have personally rated hundreds of websites (I used to be quite active in 2010-2012 on the WOT forum)

Is there anyway to rectify the issue or are my ratings now been effectively wiped out.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome, we missed you =
You have rated thousands of sites, and are very active I attest to that, and a trusted member as well
Mentalist3d, I know that there are some problems that need to be fixed, your case is not a new one, but I know that it will be resolved

When you reinstalled your FF browser, then installed a fresh copy of WOT I would guess to say the new user ID generated for the add-on is not synchronized to your user account properly.
Meaning you have new values for:
about:config
  • weboftrust.witness_key
    - the unique identifier for the add-on
  • weboftrust.witness_id
synchronizes the add-on to your profile
If you have access to the old FF profile, try to copy the witness_id value in your new install.
Caveat
It's been quite while since this has happened to me so I do not remember if the witness_id is the synch or if it's witness_key.
Backup existing values in case you need to revert.
Remember, modifying values in FF about:config is your sole responsibility.

Thanks SuperHero, I still drop into the forum but don't actively post anymore, good to see your still very active ;)

Thanks for the advice cog, unfortunately I don't have access to my old FF profile, everything got wiped on my system and I had to start from scratch. I've copied your post into a txt file in case it happens in the future, good info to know.
